Some computer systems do not have a separate graphics card. These systems utilize the computers processor to manage the graphics processing. A separate graphics card takes the graphics processing away from the main processor. The graphics card has its own graphics memory and is almost a computer in its own right. Graphics cards come with different interfaces and different amounts of memory as well as different brands and processing speeds. The computers motherboard determines the type of Graphics card that can be installed. Graphics cards can be AGP or PCI-E and even some other older interfaces. Unless you perform extremely intensive graphics a lower end graphics card may improve your system performance. |
